Why does she love photography? Heather states, “I am a story-teller at heart & so sentimental! My love of photography is rooted in images that tell a story or freeze a moment in time that would otherwise be forgotten. I got my first camera for my 8th birthday and I’ve been hoarding family photos ever since! With a background in Theatre Arts and 10 years playing the role of a 9-to-5er in Corporate America, I found my true calling in 2009 when I was cast in the 24-hour a day reality series known as “Motherhood.” In this new role, I discovered my heart for new moms and babies. Driven by a passion for brand-new families and a long-lost love of photography, Heather McGinnis Photography was born in 2010. A focus on photographing newborns soon led to photographing families of all ages & stages as well as commercial photography work in recent years. My photography is genuine, joyful, and tender, and my goal every time I pick up my camera is to create images that tell a story about what I see through my lens.”

Heather is passionate about giving back by volunteering her time and talent to the Tiny Sparrow Foundation and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. She feels incredibly honored to have been named Greensboro’s Favorite Photographer the past three years by Triad Moms on Main readers!
Heather McGinnis (Commercial Photo)Here are a few tips from Heather McGinnis Photography on preparing for a shoot with her:

1. Commercial Photography: Don’t underestimate the power of photography in your marketing and advertising efforts for your business! Clients are more likely to do business with people they feel they know or have a connection with so a modern, compelling headshot on your website or social media could turn a prospect into a client! Likewise, actual quality images of your store, service or products can reach clients and drive sales or engagements in a way that text alone or generic stock photography never will.

Heather McGinnis (Newborn Photo)2. Newborn Photography: The best time to book your Studio Newborn Session is while you are still expecting. This way, you can ensure a spot on our calendar and we can have all of the session details worked out ahead of time. Studio Newborn sessions are held within the first 2 weeks of life & we don’t actually set your session date & time until baby has arrived. That’s why it’s so important that we have all the business details worked out ahead of time and have your due date on our calendar so once baby arrives, we can get you into the studio within those first 2 weeks of life!

3. Family Photography: The very best advice we can give you when planning your Baby, Child, or Family Photography session is to relax and have fun! We are all about “Lifestyle Photography” which means documenting a moment in time with your family, how you interact & make each other laugh… Real, genuine moments shared between you and the ones you love. No formally posed studio portraits, no elaborate sets or fancy props; just your life, your love, your story. While we give you some direction on where to stand or how to interact, if you are just relaxed and enjoying the moment with the ones you love, together we’ll create photographs that you will love for years to come!
